iPhone XS Max vs Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Speed Test

Image
We have already seen the iPhone XS Max beat the iPhone X by a small margin in a speed test. But how does the iPhone XS Max compare to the best flagship Android smartphone around, the Galaxy Note 9? As a speed test conducted by YouTuber SuperSaf shows, while the Galaxy Note 9 and iPhone XS Max perform neck to neck while loading apps, the former is always a second or two behind the iPhone XS Max while loading heavy games like Angry Birds 2, Temple Run 2, Dead Trigger 2, Subway Surfers, and more. The excellent app loading times of the iPhone XS Max when compared to the Galaxy Note 9 can be attributed to Apple optimizing its latest iPhones for faster app loading times. The company did claim during its presentation that the iPhone XS series loads apps up to 30 percent faster. The multi-tasking comparison shows the iPhone XS Max actually beating the Galaxy Note 9. This is despite the Note 9 coming with 6GB RAM, while the iPhone XS Max comes with 4GB RAM. The Note 9 unloaded apps like Facebo...

Qualcomm Accuses Apple of Giving Its Confidential Source Code to Intel

Image
Thought the legal battle between Qualcomm and Apple was over ? Well, Qualcomm has made some explosive statements against Apple accusing it of stealing its trade secrets and source code and sharing it with Intel. In its filing with the Superior Court of California, Qualcomm alleges that Apple has stolen “vast swaths” of its source code to allow for inferior quality Intel modems to catch up with that of Qualcomm in terms of performance. The San Diego chip maker says that Apple prevented it from auditing the use of its source code which first led Qualcomm to sue Apple. Now though, Qualcomm is accusing Apple of a far major wrongdoing. It alleges that Apple engineers shared Qualcomm’s source code and other confidential information with Intel engineers to help improve their baseband. There’s no evidence backing Qualcomm’s explosive statements, though it makes references to the back and forth communication between Apple and Intel engineers. Qualcomm argues it was...

Are You Worried with the News That Instagram Founders Are Leaving Facebook?

Image
After WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum left Facebook earlier this year, Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger are also leaving the social networking giant. Facebook had acquired Instagram for $715 billion back in 2012. Both co-founders have already given their resignation and will be leaving the company in the coming weeks. Mark Zuckerberg has already issued a statement filed with kind words regarding Instagram co-founders leaving the company. “Kevin and Mike are extraordinary product leaders and Instagram reflects their combined creative talents,” Zuckerberg said in a statement. “I’ve learned a lot working with them for the past six years and have really enjoyed it.” However, as per TechCrunch  report , tensions between Instagram co-founders and Facebook leadership has only grown in recent times. Kevin Systrom has also had multiple clashes with Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg multiple times over the year, particularly related to sharing data back with Facebook. Systrom...

iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max Have Shorter Web Browsing Battery Life on LTE Than iPhone X

Image
The folks over at  Tom’s Guide  have posted detailed battery life benchmarks of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, with both devices doing exceedingly well. In Tom’s Guide battery test which involves continuous web browsing with a screen brightness of 150 nits over T-Mobile’s 4G network, the iPhone XS Max lasted for 10 hours 38 minutes while the iPhone XS lasted for 9 hours and 41 minutes. The iPhone XS Max fell short of besting the times of other major Android devices like the OnePlus 6, Galaxy Note 9, Google Pixel 2 XL, and the Huawei P20 Pro. However, all these devices have a higher capacity battery than the iPhone XS Max here, with the Galaxy Note 9 and Huawei P20 Pro coming with a massive 4,000mAh battery. As for the iPhone XS, its time of 9 hours and 41 minutes was just short of the category average of 9 hours and 48 minutes. Surprisingly, the iPhone X managed to beat both these devices and lasted 10 hours and 49 minutes in the test. This is despite Apple claiming...

Face ID on iPhone XS Fooled by Identical Twins

Image
When Apple debuted Face ID with the iPhone X in 2017, it claimed it was even more secure than Touch ID. While this might be true, the biggest issues with Face ID are that it is slower than Touch ID and despite being more secure, it could be easily bypassed by one’s identical twin brother or sister . For the 2018 iPhone XS series, Apple has only made claims of Face ID being faster than ever and that it is still more secure than Touch ID. Yet again though, as tests conducted by twin brothers running the LifeofTwinz YouTube channel show, Face ID on the iPhone XS still unlocks if one identical brother registers their face and another tries to unlock the phone. Face ID was also fooled when one identical twin tried opening the iPhone XS Max with a beard. That seemed to have made little to no impact as Face ID still unlocked the device. In the third test, the identical twins wore a hat and then tried to open the same iPhone XS Max. And once again, they were able to do so successfully. T...

A Bypass Flaw in macOS Mojave Allows for Access of Protected Files

Image
Apple released macOS 10.14 Mojave out into the public earlier today , but a newly discovered bypass flaw in the desktop software has already been discovered. BleepingComputer has the report out on Monday, following along with discoveries made by researcher Patrick Wardle. The bypass is facilitated by an unprivileged app, which allows Wardle to access information pertaining to Contacts data. There is a minute-long clip of the bypass in action, which you can watch at the bottom of this article. “…Wardle says that he was able to access the confidential user contacts via an unprivileged app, meaning that it did not run with administrator permissions. He says that the zero-day vulnerability stems from the way Apple implemented the protections for various privacy-related data. “I found a trivial, albeit 100% reliable flaw in their implementation,” he told us, adding that it allows a malicious or untrusted app to bypass the new security mechanism and access the sensiti...

DisplayMate Rates iPhone XS Max Display as ‘Best Ever’ Smartphone Display

Image
DisplayMate is one of the leading publications when it comes to reviewing and rating smartphone displays, and now it has weighed in with Apple’s newest, and biggest smartphone. The iPhone XS Max, simply put, is the “best ever” when it comes to smartphone displays. Of course, this is a growing trend for Apple and Samsung devices across the board, with the iPhone X setting a high bar last year , which was replaced by the Galaxy Note 9 earlier this year , and now ultimately the bar has been set even higher by the iPhone XS Max. “Apple has continued to raise the on-screen Absolute Picture Quality and Absolute Color Accuracy of their displays by implementing Precision Factory Display Calibration, moving the overall iPhone XS Max display performance up to Record Setting Outstanding levels, and setting many new Display Performance Records, including Absolute Color Accuracy at a very impressive 0.8 JNCD that is Visually Indistinguishable From Perfect, and almost certainl...
